Holiday workout tips

If you’re taking off for well deserved holiday over the festive season, your fitness regime doesn’t have to suffer. Check out our top tips for maintaining a training schedule that doesn’t eat into your relaxation time.

Circuit fitness

Schedule in times to complete a simple workout program. Whether it’s in your room, outdoors or whilst on the move, it doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective. The following example takes about 20 minutes to complete and really gets your heart pumping!

Complete as many reps as you can in 1 minute of the following:

  • Jogging on the spot

  • Squats

  • Lunge hold

  • Push-ups

  • Crunches

  • Plank hold

Repeat 3 times then don’t forget to stretch!

Get as creative as you like when devising a workout out that is right for you and your goals. Try and utilise what you have access to. Door frames, park equipment, chairs, local sports fields – there’s no need to pack big bulky fitness equipment while on holiday!

Active transport

Remember that every little bit counts! Instead of taking a taxi, public transport or hire car to see the sites, why not travel by foot or bike instead? Walking and cycling tours are gaining in popularity and are a great way to keep up fitness whilst away.

Fun activities

Try to work in some fun active things to do while on holiday. Think along the lines of surf lessons, traditional dance classes, snorkelling, beach volleyball, hiking, ice skating or skiing. Activities like these make you forget you’re getting a workout because you’re having too much fun!

Use the hotel facilities

Nowadays, many hotels, motels and other accommodation types have pool and gym facilities for guests. If you’re a gym junkie and need a fix while away, take advantage of this and fit in workouts to your schedule. Similarly, use the pool facilities to help you stay active. Before relaxing in water, commit to swimming X laps. You’ll feel great and it’ll make the down time even more enjoyable!
